Funds will be used to support the Safety Smarts farm safety program for rural schools.

Raymond, AB – July 5, 2018 – Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, is pleased to announce that as part of its Growing Today, Leading Tomorrow program, $5,000 has been donated to the Farm Safety Centre.

The grant from Corteva Agriscience will be used to fund “Safety Smarts,” a farm safety education program that sees eight regional instructors travel to more than 500 public, separate and colony schools across Alberta. In total, between 50,000 and 60,000 students living in rural and remote areas receive Safety Smarts programming each school year. Milena Deacon, safety supervisor with Corteva Agriscience endorsed the grant.

“We hear of close calls and farm-related fatalities in rural communities and realize how important it is for students to receive consistent best practices instruction,” says Deacon. “Corteva Agriscience is proud to support the Farm Safety Centre’s efforts to bring life-saving messages and education to students.”

“All of our Safety Smart instructors know the farm and come with great credibility and passion for helping keep children safe,” says Laura Nelson, executive director at the Farm Safety Centre. “We thank Corteva Agriscience for their contribution, as it will help us offset travel costs so that we can reach as many students as possible with our program.”
