Funds will provide 75,000 meals to Canadians in need

Calgary, AB, October 16, 2020 — Corteva Agriscience is pleased to support Food Banks Canada on World Food Day with a $25,000 donation through its Growing Today, Leading Tomorrow community investment program. These funds will help Food Banks Canada and its network of food banks and community agencies by providing 75,000 meals to the thousands of individuals who rely on their services every day.

For many Canadians, the economic instability of the last seven months has meant they are now confronting the realities of food insecurity for the first time. Recent reports indicate that almost one-in-seven Canadian households are currently experiencing food insecurity, up from one in ten just two years ago.

Already servicing more than one million Canadians each month before the pandemic, many of the nearly 3,000 food banks and community agencies supported by Food Banks Canada have faced significant resourcing challenges due to the unemployment, lost work days due to illness and uncertainty caused by COVID-19.

“As a member of Canada’s food supply chain, it is important to address an issue that has become far too common in communities across the country, especially since the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic,” said Bryce Eger, President at Corteva Agriscience Canada. “With every dollar donated, three meals are provided to hungry Canadians; we’re proud to support a cause that reflects our own values as a company – to put food on the tables of Canadians. Further, we applaud Food Banks Canada for all they do for those in need.”

“Food Banks Canada is grateful to Corteva Agriscience for their generous donation,” said Chris Hatch, Chief Executive Officer of Food Banks Canada. “Thank you for helping us work toward our vision of a Canada where no one goes hungry.”

About Food Banks Canada

Food Banks Canada provides national leadership to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow in collaboration with the food bank network from coast-to-coast-to-coast. For 40 years, food banks have been dedicated to helping Canadians living with food insecurity. Over 3,000 food banks and community agencies come together to serve our most vulnerable neighbours who – last year – made 1.1 million visits to these organizations in one month alone, according to our HungerCount report. Since 2010, as a system we’ve sourced and shared almost 1.5 billion pounds of food and Food Banks Canada shared over $100 million in funding to help maximize collective impact and strengthen local capacity – while advocating for reducing the need for food banks. Our vision is clear: create a Canada where no one goes hungry. Visit http://www.foodbankscanada.ca/ to learn more.
